Baxter Spring’s Michael Karguth – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by H&R Block’s Cheri Forbis

Baxter Spring golfer Michael Karguth spoke to VYPE in a recent interview sharing “My favorite part of being on this team is the comradery, that we can all get together and do something we love. We can take it seriously, practice well, and get better, while at the same time being able to joke around and embrace the fun side of athletics”.

“More than anything sports have taught me determination. Now I’ve always been stubborn, but sports have helped me put that energy into something positive. They help give me confidence, a goal, and a dream to work towards. They help me find community and purpose, they help me find joy. I owe a lot of who I am today to sports, and I am eternally grateful to all the programs that have helped me grow” said Karguth.

When he isn’t golfing Karguth is involved in many campus activities. Explaining “I am in many clubs and groups, and I sort of pride myself on my lack of free time. I am currently Baxter Springs Student Body President, Fellowship of Christian Athletes Board member, Leo Club vice president, Key club member, previous captain of both the Varsity Cross Country and Schoolers Bowl teams, First Christian Church Youth Group Admin, First Chair clarinet, current Varsity Golf Captian, official Esports Shoutcaster, Honor Choir member, Writing League member, Science Club Member, National Honor Society Member, and a presidential member of Pittsburgh State University’s Honors College. I do all of this to show the world what I’m capable of, to give my everything, and to show people what I am made of. I love being involved in my school and my community, I love watching it grow and growing alongside it. And I believe the more you put yourself out there the more opportunities you have to spread the Kingdom of God, and so take as many opportunities as I can”.

He also participates in volunteer work saying “Community service is a huge part of who I am, showing the love of Christ is how I define myself, and more than anything what I want people to see in me. I volunteer for multiple projects through First Christian Church of Baxter Springs Kansas, including the Great Day of Service, the community garden, Vocational Bible School, and Habitat for Humanity. I also volunteer my time as the electric guitarist for the praise band there. If I had to focus on any of these it would be the yearly Habitat for Humanity trip. This is a trip our youth group takes once a year, and this will be my third year going. It is a life-changing trip, we travel and help build homes for those in need. It is led yearly by Angela Burrows and Ross Davis, along with the help of many other adult sponsors. It is the coolest thing I’ve ever had the honor of contributing to.”
