Field Kindley High School senior Meek Shobe is ready to do whatever it takes to help the Golden Tornadoes succeed. So much so, that Shobe was willing to make a huge change for the upcoming season, moving from the defensive line to the defensive backfield. Specifically, Shobe, who had played D-End, will be moving to safety, “I just go out there and do what my coaches tell me to do.”
While Shobe will still be on the defensive side of the football, anyone who understands football can tell you that there is a night and day difference between those assignments. Meek appears eager to accept the challenge that the move presents, “I worked a lot on my footwork during the off-season, and my primary goal is to lead the team in tackles this year. My other goal is that I don’t want to allow any touchdown passes to be caught against me.”
The Tornadoes finished last season second in the SEK League and 6-4 overall. They lost in regionals to finish their season, and Shobe has a few games earmarked for the coming season, “I’m really looking forward to playing Indy this year – I have it circled on my calendar – and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing us make it past regionals.”
Shobe, who also stars on the basketball court for Field Kindley, has a great passion for competition, “I’ve always played sports since I was just a little kid. That’s where I first fell in love with it.”
Meek would like to continue to play sports after high school, but it that doesn’t work out, he would like to go to college for welding or to obtain his CDL to drive trucks.
