Fort Scott’s Luke Harris – Football Spotlight – Presented by Briggs Auto Group – Fort Scott

By Ken Hansard

Fort Scott High School senior Luke Harris, who plays offensive guard and defensive tackle for the Tigers, certainly understands the idea of focusing on what is in front of you.  When asked about which games and which opponents he is most looking forward to playing this fall, Harris responded, “The first game of the season. It’s important to take one game at a time and work on getting better each week.”

Harris reinforced that idea when asked about his goals entering his final season of high school.  “Simply playing my senior season with my teammates.  And I want to continue to improve as a player and help my team compete for a league title and a state playoff appearance.”

Harris is fully aware that, if Fort Scott is to make those advances as a team, he must be one of the Tigers to lead that charge, “I see my role as that of a veteran leader – a leader who can anchor both the offensive and defensive lines.”

Luke has been highly decorated over his first three seasons, being named 1st team All-League (SEK) as well as being selected as Honorable Mention All-State (4A). Despite his past success, Harris is determined to continue to develop his game.  In the off-season, he has directed his attention to his, “Overall technique as an offensive and defensive lineman. I have focused on being quicker and improving my footwork.”

Luke is also active in other sports and activities, competing for the Tigers in powerlifting and in track and field in the spring.  Although he is not yet sure of what he would like to study in college, Luke does plan to play football next year at the next level.
