Independence’s Sarah Veile – Track Spotlight – Presented by Advanced Physical Therapy

By Ken Hansard

Independence High School’s Sarah Veile understands that, as a freshman, she needs to learn from the wisdom of others.  “I would say mine is more of a learning position. I am only a freshman and so I have a lot to learn and many people to look up to.”

That ability to listen and learn is important for young athletes.  And with Veile’s level of activity, she will likely need to learn to balance a very busy schedule, “Both of my parents were really into sports. They introduced me to sports. I have played soccer, basketball, softball, tennis, volleyball, and wrestling. I also participated in cheer, track, and swim.”

In track, Veile’s forte is the sprints.  She regularly runs the 100, 200, 4 x 100, and 4 x 400.  She is optimistic of qualifying for the upcoming state track meet, but that will come with some unique challenges.  Veile broke her wrist prior to the Bulldogs’ league meet. “I am able to participate in regionals but I did not run in the league meet.”  Veile has continued throughout the year to set P.R.’s in each of her events, “I am really proud of that because it means that I am making progress and getting better.”

Veile is highly involved in her school’s community.  She is a STUCO member, in the Gifted Ed program, and in orchestra where she received a I rating (the highest possible) for quartet. She is also plays basketball for the Bulldogs. And if that weren’t enough, she is also a tennis letterman and cheerleader.

Eventually, Veile would like to go to college and continue to play sports.  She has tentative designs on going into dentistry.
