Coffeyville wrestler Brennen Westervelt spoke to VYPE in a recent interview.
VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
My personal goal for this year is to go back to state.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
My favorite memory is on the way back from state blasting music with all the seniors since this would be the last time we all were teammates.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
My cousin Devon Vincent would always push me to be better and even though he’s graduated he still watches my matches lets me know what to improve on and shows that he cares.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
My favorite part about being on the team is probably the coaches I know with Spencer he can make me the best I can be and with Wade, I can always laugh it’s just a great environment to be in.
VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
Wrestling has taught me I can’t always do everything I have to work for what I get if that comes to getting 2 points or turning in an assignment
VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?
A few days ago my coach told me I needed to drop the ball and let loose and stop caring so much about my matches and putting so much pressure on myself.
VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
John Broadwell, he’s been my coach since I started wrestling at 3 and he’s made me who I am today and I know no matter if I lose or win he will still love me.
