Q&A with Baxter Springs’ Caleb Pujols – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by H&R Block’s Cheri Forbis

Baxter Springs athlete Caleb Pujols gave an interview with VYPE to talk about who he is.

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?

I have a lot of goals for this year. Of course my biggest one for this moment is to help team make it to the playoffs. Another one of them is to raise my ACT score from a 26 to at least a 30 so I can be admitted to the honors College at Pitt State. My first time I did great on math and science. I actually got a 34 on my math, but I definitely was not ready for the little amount of time on the English.

VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?

The most fun I have had is definitely this summer. I had a great time putting in that work with my teammates in the weight room.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?

My favorite teacher is my Calculus teacher, Mrs. Davis, she is very intelligent and is very helpful in preparing me for college and life.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

My favorite athletic memory is the work I put in the summer. I loved seeing, hearing, and feeling the improvement in my skill level as a football player.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

The teammate that has left the biggest impression on me is my quarterback, Payton Gaines. He has always been behind me. He always pushed me to be better for the team, for me, and for his protection.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

My favorite part of being on the team is better the younger players beneath me. I know that I’m not going anywhere for football but some of the freshmen could. So, I always love helping and making them tougher than they are now.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?

I would probably go to California to visit my dad. I don’t get to see him that often so I go any chance I have. I would probably bring my girlfriend. She has been my biggest supporter throughout my high school career.

VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?

I would probably just use it to pay the insurance on my car and take my girlfriend and my teammates to get some high quality food from a nice place. As a lineman, food is definitely a necessity.

VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?

I am really only a football player. I try to just focus on football because that is one sport I’m good at. So basically year round, I prepare for football by lifting, running through play, and reacting to real time football experiences. And then when I’m not preparing for football, I’m getting ready for college by studying and trying to learn as much as I can. I also work constantly at the Pizza Hut at Baxter. I try to save as much money as possible so I can have money when I live on my own. I also try to help my family out with money whenever I can.
