Q&A with Chanute’s Augustus Thustan – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Hellas

In our recent poll, Chanute’s Augustus Thustan was voted “Outstanding Offensive Lineman” winning out among his peers with 11,070 votes. After his victory, Thustan completed an interview with VYPE to tell us more about who he is.

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?

To get all A’s, and be a better person and athlete.

VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?

During my track season, I learned to get out of my comfort zone and got to hang out with people outside of school.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?

My freshman-year honors math teacher, he did a lot more than just teach us math, we learned about how to treat others.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

During football season my sophomore year, after winning our league our newspaper came out with an issue and gave it to us and it said “Chanute owns the SEK.” That was super cool.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

Kolten Lacrone most definitely, he took me under his wing when I was a freshman and instilled positive habits in me that I still have to this day. Without him, I would not have the work ethic that I have now.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

The culture, there’s such a string bond between us all, it’s an actual brotherhood and we are all held accountable.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?

I would go to Death Valley California because it has the smallest amount of light pollution in the USA and I would look at the stars until my eyes gave out. I would probably take my dogs with me so they can see them too.

VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?

I would spend it mostly on video games and clothes. Stuff that I can use for a long time.

VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?

I volunteer to do things at my church, I run all of our electronic stuff, and when our church does stuff for the community I’m there to help.

VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?

No clubs for me yet, I haven’t been able to find enough time between my sports and higher-level classes to join many. I am, however, thinking of joining our Scholars Bowl team this winter.

VYPE: Are you involved in academic excellence activities such as the National Honor Society, Student Council, or other academic clubs?

I am our senior class male representative, I have also volunteered to help with them my junior and sophomore years as well.
