Frontenac’s Brogan Smith – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Bekah Harlan – Shelter Insurance

For Frontenac junior Brogan Smith, the best part of competing is the people who surround him. “The thing I most love about being a student-athlete at Frontenac is the support of the school and community,” he said. That energy from the stands motivates him each time he steps onto the floor.

Smith plays an important role for the Raiders. “I am a junior and play shooting guard and forward,” he said. His basketball journey has deep roots. “I started playing basketball at five years old.” Those years of dedication continue to shape his confidence and growth.

Along the way, Smith has leaned on people who inspire him. “My mom inspires me the most,” he said. That inspiration fuels both his work ethic and his mindset. Former teammates have also left a mark. “Trey Cramer was a past teammate who really helped me a lot in junior high and playing on varsity as a freshman; he was always there for me.”

When it comes to testing his skills, one gym stands above the rest. “St. Mary’s Colgan is the toughest place to play because of the Frontenac vs. Colgan rivalry; they have a loud crowd and a gym that enhances the noise,” Smith said.

The game itself continues to challenge and push him forward. “The skill I’ve improved most is my ability to finish through contact,” he said, pointing to the development he’s made heading into this season.

Like many players, Smith is also a fan of the game at its highest level. “The Lakers and Thunder because LeBron is my favorite player and the Thunder because they are a really good, young team,” he said when asked which NBA matchup he’d most want to watch. That answer also ties into his view on greatness. “LeBron James,” he said without hesitation when asked who the greatest player of all time is.

Looking beyond high school, Smith already has his eyes on the future. “After I graduate, I hope to play a sport in college and if not, go to a four-year university,” he said.

For now, Smith continues to grow into his role as a leader on the court—shaped by his community, inspired by his family, and motivated by the love of the game.
