Caney Valley’s Grace Prince – Volleyball Spotlight – Presented by Lacey Hodges – Shelter Insurance

For Grace Prince, being part of Caney Valley athletics has always been about more than just competition. “What I love most about being a student-athlete at CVHS is how respectful and supportive the teams and coaches are,” she said. That encouragement has fueled her passion for volleyball and her growth throughout the years.

Now a senior, Prince reflects on just how much the game has shaped her. “I am a senior and this is my seventh year playing volleyball,” she said. Over those years, she’s worked hard to elevate her skills and contribute to her team’s success. “I think the most improved part of my game coming into this season is my serve and serve receive.”

Her approach to serving highlights her competitive mindset. “I prefer jump serve because I’m able to serve more aggressively with my jump serve,” Prince explained. That aggressiveness has given her confidence on the court.

Along the way, teammates and mentors have influenced her journey. “I had a former teammate off my club volleyball team that left a huge impression on how I play today,” she said. And when it comes to current teammates, she doesn’t hesitate in recognizing skill. “Emma Marshall is the best setter on our team in my opinion.”

Prince balances her athletic life with academics, where she has her own favorites. “My favorite subject in school is history and my favorite teacher is Mrs. Newby,” she said. Off the court, she also makes time for the things that bring her joy. “I enjoy listening to music and hanging out with my friends and family.”

Her routines before and after matches show how she prepares for competition. “My favorite pre-game meal is any type of chicken, and my favorite post-game is alfredo or sliders,” she shared.

Looking ahead, Prince has her sights set on the next step. “After graduation, I hope to continue my volleyball or track career to the next level and hopefully study nursing,” she said.

Whether it’s through her dedication in the gym, her leadership as a senior, or her academic focus, Grace Prince is ready to finish her career at Caney Valley strong while preparing for the future that lies ahead.
