There’s something about the atmosphere at Frontenac High School that makes it feel like home for Dominic Ricciardi. A senior with a decade of wrestling experience, Ricciardi has spent years training and competing at the highest level, and the community surrounding him has made all the difference. “The environment, the winning culture, and the community support,” Ricciardi said when asked what he loves most about being a student-athlete at Frontenac.
Ricciardi, who started wrestling at the age of seven, has built his skill set year by year. “I am currently a senior and I’ve been wrestling for 10 years,” he said. That dedication has paid off in a major way as he recently signed to wrestle at the next level. “I will be going to Barton Community College in Great Bend,” Ricciardi shared.
In the wrestling room, growth happens through sweat and battles with tough partners—and Ricciardi knows exactly who gives him the best push during practice. “Cash Wilderman,” he said when asked who the toughest workout partner is. That internal competition fuels improvement and has helped Dominic sharpen his skills alongside like-minded teammates.
One teammate who left a lasting impression was Justice Compton. “Justice Compton because we have a similar wrestling style and I like his grit,” Ricciardi said. The mutual drive between the two helped shape Ricciardi’s mindset and performance on the mat.
Every wrestler has a technique that takes time to get just right, and for Ricciardi, it was the single leg. “A solid effective single leg,” he said when asked which move took the longest to master. Now, it’s a key part of his arsenal.
Ricciardi credits his coaches for shaping his discipline and passion. “Coach Aikin and Coach Deisel because they are supportive, strict, but still fun!” he said.
Outside the gym, Ricciardi knows how to unwind. “I love to fish and hang out with my friends!”
And when it comes to wrestling, he’s certain: “It’s super physical but it’s also very mentally challenging. You also have to battle the weight aspect the entire season.”
