Q&A with Chanute’s Delaney Hastings – Sponsored by Farm Bureau Financial Services- Justin Stithem

By Ken Hansard

Chanute High School golfer and student-athlete Delaney Hastings spoke to VYPE SPORTS in a recent interview.

VYPE SPORTS: What are your personal goals for the year?

Hastings: My goal for next season is to enjoy my last year of high school golf with my friends. Of course, I also want to improve my golf game.

VYPE SPORTS: What is your favorite athletic memory?

Hastings: It’s hard to pick just one favorite memory, but most of my favorites come from the van rides after the tournaments, because no matter how we played that day, we always managed to cheer each other up and have a good time.

VYPE SPORTS: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

Hastings: My favorite part of being on my team is just spending time with the girls and making fun memories with them.

VYPE SPORTS: What clubs or campus groups are you involved with and why?

Hastings: I am in FFA, and I am also a member of the National Honors Society.

VYPE SPORTS: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

Hastings: Golf has taught me to not get down on myself and to always look forward. This is because when you are playing golf, you don’t always make that perfect shot, but instead of thinking about the bad shot you hit, you have to think about the next shot you are going to make. This mindset is very useful in my day-to-day life; however, it took me a long time to think this way, and it has helped me a lot this year.

VYPE SPORTS: Here is your chance to give a shout-out or say thank you to anyone you wish.

Hastings: I would like to thank my mom who supports me in every way possible. But I would also like to thank my coaches and teammates because without them, I wouldn’t be anywhere near where I am today.
