For Brennen Coffield, success this season has started with mentality.
The Iola golfer said his biggest focus throughout the year has been maintaining a positive mindset while competing and playing the best golf possible each time he steps onto the course.
“My main focus was to keep a good mindset throughout the season,” Coffield said. “My main goal was to play the best golf I could.”
That approach has helped Coffield stay steady during difficult stretches on the course. He said one of the biggest strengths in his game is his putting ability, which gives him confidence when other areas are not performing at their best.
“I would say my strength is my putting, which allows me to fall back and rely on it when things aren’t necessarily going my way,” Coffield said.
Coffield also understands improvement in golf is a year-round process. During the season, he has concentrated on keeping the right mentality to perform consistently, while his offseason plans center around refining his swing mechanics.
“During the season I am focusing on a mindset that allows me to play the best golf possible,” Coffield said. “During the offseason I will continue to build up my swing mechanics, making it more sound and reliable.”
As the season continues, Coffield said he hopes to help lead Iola toward a strong postseason finish. A trip to state remains one of the team’s biggest goals.
“Making a state run would be great for me and my team,” Coffield said.
