Colter Powell, a senior swingman who plays both guard and forward for the Uniontown Eagles, posted some eye-popping numbers during his junior campaign. Powell averaged a double-double for the Eagles last season, posting 17.3 points per game and 11.3 rebounds per game. He also managed to chip in a couple steals per game on the defensive end of the court. Along the way, he helped lead the Eagles to a 12-8 record. As a senior, Powell hopes that those numbers – both the individual and the team – will only improve.
It will be quite a feat for Powell to improve on last season, when his leadership and statistics contributed to his nomination as an All-State player, “I’m proud of that. It means a lot to me because it shows that my efforts and my play did not go unnoticed.” Despite the recognition he earned, Powell did not rest on his laurels during the off-season, but rather worked even harder to identify, and improve, areas of his game he felt needed work, “Free throws and being in shape have been my weaknesses in the past. I have stayed focused in the weight room and the gym during the offseason and will continue to do so throughout the season.”
In the end, Colter simply wants to finish his senior season on a positive note, “I’m excited to see what our team can accomplish. We have some guys really stepping up.
I feel like I bring lots of energy to the team and leadership on and off the court.
I’m focused on making a sub-state run and coming out on top of the close games.”
When Colter is not leading the Eagles on the hardwood, he also participates in football, baseball, FFA, 4-H livestock showing, Club 3:16, and STUCO.
