For Brette Pasteur, being part of Pittsburg High School athletics means more than just the game—it’s about the people beside her. “I love playing with my friends and the dragon pride along with the community support,” she said. That sense of connection has shaped her entire experience as a Dragon.
Now a senior, Pasteur has found her favorite place both in the classroom and on the field. “I am a senior and my favorite subject is science,” she explained. Softball, though, has been her passion for more than a decade. “I have been playing since I was seven. I play third base, but I am also a utility.” Still, she admits there’s another spot she wouldn’t mind trying. “If I could play any other position, it would be catcher.”
Her approach to the game is both thoughtful and team-centered, especially when she steps into the batter’s box. “I think about the placement where I need to hit the ball to score runners,” Pasteur said. And when it comes to atmosphere, nothing beats the home crowd. “My favorite place to play is our home field. We have an amazing crowd that comes out to support us and the field is awesome.”
This season, she has one particular matchup circled. “An opponent that I am looking forward to playing this year is Columbus. They were our only regular season loss.”
Along her journey, teammates have left a lasting mark. “A former teammate that left a good impression on me is Megan Johnston. I have played with her since I was eight and we have always clicked when playing next to each other at shortstop and third. I also have always trusted her to get on base and score.”
Her strongest inspiration, though, comes from home. “A big influence in my life has been my mom. She has always helped me with anything I need whether that is softball or everyday life. She’s not only a great mom but she is also a great human with a big heart.”
Looking ahead, Pasteur is determined to keep chasing her dreams. “After I graduate, I plan on playing college softball and major in biology with plans to become a dentist.”
