All-state honors aren’t just something Jay Evans talks about—they’re a driving force behind everything he does. “My personal goals this year is to get all state.”
The Yellowjackets took a more focused approach this offseason, zeroing in on position-specific development. “We have prepared different by having skill sessions.”
Preparation is already paying off with familiarity and confidence across the board. “The biggest improvement is that we already have plays we can run.” A winning mindset is at the heart of everything for Fredonia’s senior group. “Our team’s goals this year is to get all state, district title, and league title.”
It starts in the trenches, and Evans knows his unit is built to dominate. “I think our biggest strength right now is our line with four starters returning.”
As a senior, he brings power and presence on both sides of the ball. “I play OL/DL.”
Football IQ plays a major role in Jay’s success, especially pre-snap. “When reading a defense, I look for where their D-line is lined up.”
No matter the down, no matter the opponent—Jay plays with one mission in mind. “My mindset when I step on the field is to do whatever it takes to get my team a win.”
This year’s roster has something that can’t be taught—true team chemistry. “People may not know this, but our team has a lot of chemistry with all the people we have coming back.”
When it’s time to lock in, Jay turns to a classic anthem. “Go-to hype song: ‘In the Air Tonight’ by Phil Collins.”
Some moments stick with you forever—and one win last season will always stand out. “My favorite memory is last year’s game against Riverton. Our kicker kicked a 48-yard field goal to send the game to overtime, then he kicked the game-winning field goal for the win in overtime.” He also plays basketball.
Standing tall at 6’4″, 258 pounds, Jay Evans is a force to be reckoned with this season on the gridiron for Fredonia.
