Parsons High School senior basketball player and student-athlete Damais Johnson spoke to VYPE SPORTS in a recent interview.
VYPE SPORTS: What are your personal goals for the year?
Johnson: My goal is to make a First-Team Class 4A All-State, and I would love for our team to win league and make it to state.
VYPE SPORTS: What is your favorite athletic memory?
Johnson: It’s kind of an inside joke, but… One of my teammates making me fall.
VYPE SPORTS: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
Johnson: I would say my boy, Dontae Sawyer. We’ve played together since the second grade, so our chemistry is totally on point.
VYPE SPORTS: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
Johnson: It is definitely my relationship with all my teammates. I grew up with them, and I could not wish for a better team or better friends.
VYPE SPORTS: What things about any sport or activity that you have participated in do you cherish the most?
Johnson: Actually, I would just like to say how much I really love football. A lot of that came from being able to watch my brothers play.
VYPE SPORTS: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
Johnson: The value of communication.
VYPE SPORTS: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?
Johnson: It’s not that you aren’t trying, but rather that you are not just giving your very best.
VYPE SPORTS: Who inspires you and why?
Johnson: I would say my mom, Brandi Redmond. I have lost both my grandmas and my uncle during the past three years, so I know that each day I have the opportunity to put my feet on the ground, I know I want to do this for her and to make her proud.
VYPE SPORTS: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.
Johnson: Once again, I would love to give a big shout out to my mom for always having my back and helping me throughout my high school career. I also want to give a heartfelt thank you to all my friends and coaches.
