Field-Kindley High School senior soccer player and student-athlete Jake Horner spoke to VYPE SPORTS in a recent interview.
VYPE SPORTS: What are your personal goals for the year?
Horner: I plan to be do my best and be successful in all my athletics.
VYPE SPORTS: What is your favorite athletic memory?
Horner: Probably one of my favorite memories came this past year in track. I was injured all season and came back for regionals and state. I ended up placing sixth in the 100, and I ran for the team that was the state runner up in the 4 x 100.
VYPE SPORTS: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
Horner: The freshman group – and primarily Jonathan Robledo, who we called JonJon. He started all throughout the year, and he reminded me of myself. We ended up being really close.
VYPE SPORTS: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
Horner: The team itself – from the coaches to the players. It’s a really fun group of people to be around.
VYPE SPORTS: What clubs or campus groups are you involved with and why?
Horner: I am involved in soccer, basketball, and track.
VYPE SPORTS: What accolades (in any sport or activity) are you most proud of?
Horner: I am very proud of twice being named All-SEK League in soccer. I am also proud of medaling twice at state in track.
VYPE SPORTS: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
Horner: Playing soccer has taught me team building skills, for sure.
VYPE SPORTS: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?
Horner: My junior year Coach told me that I have an ability to change the pace of the game with the flip of a switch. That really opened my eyes.
VYPE SPORTS: Who inspires you and why?
Horner: My family and my team are the ones who inspire me to do well.
VYPE SPORTS: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.
Horner: I’d like to give a shout out to all my teammates and coaches who helped me along the way.
