Coach Hibler says:

“The Lions will rely heavily on their younger players this year with only two returning starters. The two returning starters will have to lead the way for the Lions to be successful.”

Chanute Comets

Head Coach: Devon Crabtree

Last season’s record: 16-6

Key returning players: Eliott Stephenson, 6-3, sr., G

Coach Crabtree says:

“We are going to surprise some people as the season goes on this year. We are young, but we do have a few seniors that will be great leaders for us.”

Fredonia Yellow Jackets

Head Coach: Dee Barnett

Last season’s record: 14-8

Coach Barnett says:

“Last year was a great year for our program as we took big steps forward in many areas.

As with every team in the state, we are excited and feel we have a team that can

compete at a high level.”

Galena Bulldogs

Head Coach: Matt Meyr

Last season’s record: 10-12

Key returning players: Jack Perry, 6-3, sr., F; Quinton Cox, 6-5, sr., F; Linken Kimberling, 5-10, sr., G; Zane Adams, 5-10, sr., G

Coach Meyr says:

“We have a good group of seniors who got a lot of varsity experience last year. So our goal is to be competitive every night and have a chance to win in the fourth quarter.”

Humboldt Cubs

Head Coach: David Taylor

Last season’s record: 19-3

Key returning players: Colden Cook, 6-5, sr., F; Blake Ellis, 5-9, sr., G; Asher Hart, 5-11, sr., G; Mason Sterling, 5-10, jr., G

Coach Taylor says:

“I think our speed will hopefully allow us to defend both full and in the half-court to create turnovers so that we can get out in transition.  Also we  hope to continue taking pride in defending well and rebounding at a very high level.”

Pittsburg Purple Dragons

Head Coach: Jordan Woods

Last season’s record: 17-5

Key returning players: Nate Mitchell, 6-1, sr., F; T.J. Wesley, 6-5, sr., F

Coach Woods says:

“We are losing a lot with Mason English (leading scorer). Our team will be looking for multiple players to step up and replace his scoring. It is a party of high school athletics and we expect to have a team that will play hard and compete each and every night.”

Uniontown Eagles

Head Coach: Chad Hayes

Coach Hayes says:

“ Last season, our basketball program took a step in the right direction. We only had two upperclassmen on our roster, seniors Byron Fry and  Brycen Stewart, so we return a lot of key pieces.”

GIRLS

Cherryvale Chargers

Head Coach: Kelsey Overacker

Last season’s record: 16-7

Key returning players: Kadynce Forman, 5-9, sr., G; Harmony John, 5-7, so. G

Coach Overacker says:

“We are going to be fast, and we have several kids who can play inside out and shoot the three-ball. We plan to really pressure the ball and look to score in transition. I’m excited to get to work with this group.”

Fort Scott Tigers

Head Coach: Pechone Stepps

Last season’s record: 21-3

Key returning players: Kylee Comstock, 5-11, sr., C; Allie Brown, 5-4, sr., G; Abbie Gorman, 5-5, jr., G

Coach Stepps says:

“Overall, I am looking forward to having competitive practices as girls compete to make each other better on all level’s freshmen through seniors. As always, we have our normal team goals that we set at the beginning of each season coupled with our motto of playing with PRIDE,
PASSION, and PURPOSE.”

Galena Bulldogs

Head Coach: Zach Shockey

Last season’s record: 4-16

Key returning players: Rylee Boyes, 5-6, sr., G; Morgan Strong, 5-4, jr., G; Weslynn Russell, 5-9, so., F

Coach Shockey says:

“Our team returns five players with starting experience, including three sophomores who started last year as freshmen. That experience has helped our players be more confident with the ball in their hands and prepared them to play at the level required to compete in the CNC.”

Independence Bulldogs

Head Coach: Brycen Byrd

Last season’s record: 13-9

Key returning players: Kaylea Lemos, 5-9, jr., F; Brooklyn Mattix, 5-8, jr., F; Madelin Beshear, 5-7, jr., G; Katelyn Spencer, 5-10, jr., F

Coach Byrd says:

“We take pride in how we play defensively, and we should be an aggressive and fast team.  Our continual focus is to never be satisfied with a level of play.”
