Pittsburg’s Nate Mitchell – Football Q & A – Presented by State Farm – Matt Robertson

By Ken Hansard

Pittsburg High School football player and student-athlete Nate Mitchell spoke to VYPE SPORTS in a recent interview.

VYPE SPORTS: What are your personal goals for the year?

Mitchell: My goals this year were to get more offers and work on self-improvement.

VYPE SPORTS: What is your favorite athletic memory?

Mitchell:  My favorite memory had to be getting carried off the field by the underclassmen.

VYPE SPORTS: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

Mitchell: Jackson Turnbull.  He was an old teammate who graduated after my sophomore year. The reason he left an impression on me is because Jackson and I played the same position, and he gave me someone to look up to.

VYPE SPORTS: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

Mitchell: My favorite part of being on the team is how connected we were this year. We ate together almost every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday.

VYPE SPORTS: What clubs or campus groups are you involved with and why?

Mitchell: I am in GBL, FCA, NHS.  I play football, basketball, and run track. I am in these clubs because I love giving back to the community, and I obviously have a soft spot for sports.

VYPE SPORTS: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

Mitchell: What football has taught me is that no matter how hard it gets, you have to push through.  That philosophy has helped me become the man I am today.

VYPE SPORTS: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

Mitchell: Sometimes the things that are simpler for you turn out to be better for you.

VYPE SPORTS: Who inspires you and why?

Mitchell: Alex Barnes.  He’s a family friend and a Dragon alumnus. When I got the chance to play running back this year, I chose to wear number 34, which was Alex’s number in high school. Alex later went on to play at K-State.

VYPE SPORTS: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.

Mitchell: I would like to say thank you to all my coaches for pointing me in the right direction. I would like to shout out to all my seniors for believing in me and in our team and not showing one bit of doubt. Lastly, I’d like to say thank you to Coach Antony Chatmon for working with me and mentoring me all summer and all during the football season.
