Like many football enthusiasts, Independence High School senior Lamarcus Allen’s love of the sport came from his relationship with his father, “My love for sports came from my dad. He was the one who started me on football, and my love for the sport just progressed more and more.”
Allen, a middle linebacker and running back for the Bulldogs, enters his senior campaign with that love for the game still intact, “I’m really looking forward to my senior football season. My goal is simply to enjoy it while it lasts, because once it’s gone; it’s gone.”
While Lamarcus has plans to enjoy his final stint with the Bulldogs, he also appreciates that with seniority comes responsibility, “I see my role as one to help out the younger kids and be a role model for the upcoming generation.”
The Bulldogs finished last season at 3-8, a record that Lamarcus hopes and expects to improve upon this season. To that end, Allen recorded a lot of time in the weight room in the off-season. “I wanted to make sure I was mentally in the right place, and I addressed that by bonding with the team during morning weights and practice. I also went to the gym a lot on my own.”
When asked about his proudest moment in sports, Allen’s thoughts once more gravitated towards his father, “I’m never really too proud of myself after I achieve something because my dad raised me to be the best I can be.” And when asked about any real challenges that he sees entering the season, Lamarcus answered in a way that will likely make his father proud, “There really are no challenges, because if you put your mind to something you want to do, you will achieve it, no matter how hard it might seem.”
Allen also wrestles for the Bulldogs and runs track in the spring. Lamarcus is strong in the classroom, as well, and he has accumulated a 3.4 G.P.A. over the course of his high school academic career.
Lamarcus’ plan for the future hopefully includes playing football at the collegiate level. He is also considering the military if football doesn’t work out. Eventually, Lamarcus sees himself entering the medical field.
