Coffeyville-Field Kindley running back Aaron Tunstall has some simple goals in mind for his senior season. They may be simple goals, but they are also lofty goals.
Last season Tunstall and the Golden Tornadoes finished 6-4, placing 2nd in the SEK League. Their season ended with a 2nd round playoff loss in the final seconds to Wellington. Tunstall was a large part of that success, rushing for nearly 1800 yards on the season.
This year, Tunstall would like to step into more of a leadership role and hopefully help take his school to new heights that haven’t been reached by the Tornadoes in a while. When asked what he is most looking forward to, Tunstall replied, “I’m just really looking forward to the first game to see how we look.”
If the Tornadoes are to rise to that next level, Tunstall knew that he would need to put in extra work in the off-season, “I’m working hard in the off-season on moving laterally – so I’m really working on my footwork.”
A large part of Coffeyville’s success hinged on Tunstall’s productivity. On a team full of stars, Aaron was named Most Valuable Offensive Player in the SEK League. He was also named to the First Team 4A All-State team. However, like most great athletes, Tunstall is not resting on his laurels, “I’m looking forward to trying to rush for 2000 yards this season.”
TunstalI also competes in basketball and track for the Tornadoes. As a sophomore, he placed runner-up in the 200 meters at the KSHSAA State Track Championships in Wichita.
Although Tunstall’s future plans are still largely undecided, he does plan to play football at the collegiate level.
