Lucy Robins’ high school career for the Independence Bulldogs is now over, but the senior graduate had quite a ride along the way, “It was my senior year, and I looked forward to being able to leading the team and just having fun with the six other seniors. We also had two new assistant coaches, and I was looking forward to seeing how they impacted the team dynamic.”
The Bulldogs finished their season at 15-9 overall. After beating Chanute in the first round of regionals, they lost in the championship game to Wamego.
Still, Robins embraced her role as a four-year starter and senior member of the Bulldogs squad, “I saw myself as the leader of the team. Being a catcher allows me to have control of the field, and I felt like if I lead by example, my teammates would benefit.
Robins, who earned the Bulldogs’ starting catching duties as a freshman, has been highly decorated. She earned second team All-SEK in her freshman season and was named to the first team in both her sophomore and junior campaigns. Additionally, she was named to the All-District team and has twice been All-State honorable mention. She should be in consideration for even higher honors following her senior year. While post-season accolades have not been released yet, Robins carried a batting average of .412 and an on base percentage of .575. Additionally, Lucy finished with 4 home runs, 24 RBIs, and a slugging percentage of .803.
In addition to softball, Robins also played golf for the Bulldogs for three years and I was a two-year member of the National Honor Society.
In the fall, Robins will be attending Baker University to major in Communications with aspirations to become a speech pathologist.
