Q&A with Fort Scott’s Cedrik Martin – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Bourbon County Cars

Fort Scott baseball player Cedrik Martin spoke to VYPE in a recent interview.

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?

I am hoping to make some lasting memories with all my teammates and make a deep playoff run and maybe even bring a state title home to Fort Scott

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

My favorite athletic memory has to be our double overtime win over Coffeyville in my junior year. Everyone on that team fought to the end and were fighting for each other.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

Throughout wrestling, Jasper Allison was one of the hardest-working teammates I have ever had. Jasper has put his soul and passion into wrestling where he has been very successful and has set many records for Fort Scott.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

The team’s chemistry is what makes this team so special. Everyone is pulling for everyone else and there is little selfishness present.

VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?

I am active in Key Club which is a club where we volunteer for community projects and participate in local associations.

VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?

I am involved in the Student Council, Key Club, National Honors Society, Physics Club, and Future Business Leaders of America. I think in order to be a functioning member of anything you should be contributing to something whether it’s multiple or one in order to be successful.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

All of the sports I have been a part of have taught me a lot of lessons. They have all taught me to work hard and battle through adversity. They have also taught me how to be a better friend and a better leader.

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

Keep your head down and keep working/work while you wait. These phrases emphasize how important it is to work hard and stay persistent.

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?

My dad has always been someone I could look towards. He has worked incredibly hard for everything he has gotten and has shown perseverance through anything he does.

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.

I want to thank my family who have all supported me through whatever I do and to my friends and teammates who have pushed me to be the best I can be.
