Coffeyville runner Audrey Cavaness recently completed an interview with VYPE.
VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
My personal goals for this year are to refocus on sports and my education, while also being able to maintain outside relationships.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
My favorite athletic memory would be getting to run at the state meet as a freshman and learning how it works so I will be more comfortable in the future.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
My favorite part of being on this team is that a lot of our workouts are individualized, and for our event. My coach does a very good job of recognizing what we need to work on the most.
VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?
Last fall I went with the cross country team to run the turnaround spot at a marathon, We handed out food, drinks, and first aid stuff to the runners.
VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?
I am in FCA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, because I think it is an important thing to remember and think about. I am also in powerlifting, I started lifting to help with track and I realized that I really like it and want to compete in that as well.
VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
Track has taught me that working hard and having a good attitude even when you lose will get you further than just having everything come naturally.
VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?
The best advice that anyone has ever given me is to always give my best, even if my best isn’t what it was yesterday because I can get there again.
VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
My parents inspire me, they pay attention and try to help me figure out exactly what I need to do to get better and they go to all of my meets. My dad takes me to the gym, and researches about what helps a person get stronger for the 400. My mom uses her experience and what helped her get a better time to help me do the same thing.
VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.
I would like to thank my mom, my dad, and my coach for the amount of time they have put into my running.
