Q&A with Fort Scott’s Cal Cosens – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Bourbon County Cars

Fort Scott baseball player Cal Cosens completed an interview recently with VYPE.

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?

My personal goals for this year is to be an all SEK selection and an all State selection.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

My favorite athletic memory is playing Abilene first round of state, Cody Wilson came up in the bottom of the 7th and led off with a double, we moved him to third and eventually won on a walk off by Caden Young.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

The teammate who has left the biggest impression on me is probably Eli Kellog. Just seeing how hard he worked his senior year was incredible. He was a really good leader and we are going to miss him a lot this year.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

My favorite part about being on this team is just the chemistry we have. We all like hanging out together and always are doing something together. Every time we go out to the stadium we are either playing ping pong, pro mini hoop, or fungo golf, after we get our work in.

VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?

I am involved in National Honors society, stuco, football, basketball, and baseball. I have tried to be as involved as I could in my high school career and I feel like I have. The reason I have done all these things is just because I want to have fun with my friends.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

Baseball has taught me that you can’t expect to be perfect in life, because if you expect perfection, you will drive yourself crazy. It’s taught me that you are going to make mistakes.

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

The best advice I’ve ever been given is to just have fun. In baseball I found myself overthinking and underperforming, so this summer my dad just told me to “have fun” and to stop worrying so much about results, and as soon as I brought mindset into games, it changed how I played.

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?

Chayden clayton inspires me. He’s a guy who is always a positive person and is also my throwing partner. He lightens the mood in the clubhouse and is a funny guy.

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.

I would like to say thank you to my family for always supporting me.
