Coffeyville runner Dantevius “Donnie” Boykin spoke to VYPE in a recent interview.
VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
My personal goals for this year I’d say is to build a closer relationship with God, win state for triple/long jump & become a better all around person.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
My favorite athletic memory was last year at the State track meet in Wichita, coming back on the 2nd day after placing 2nd place by half an inch in long jump due to a leg injury the previous day & winning 1st place in 4A boys Triple jump making me a Championship holder.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
A teammate who left a big impression on me is my boy Jeremy Colbert, we’ve been putting in work together & talking about our dreams at the next level since kids. We’re not 100% there yet but I can say we did it.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
My favorite part of being on my team is it’s all family. No, one’s pointing fingers, we all know each individual is just trying to get better.
VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?
I am a member of 1st Church of God in Christ and I like participating in anything that helps.
VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
One thing my sport has taught me that I use in my daily life is to simply do it again. At times we all fail but what matters is if u get back up and do it again. Consistency is key but how will you be consistent if u don’t do it again?
VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?
The best advice anyone has ever given me is from my mother quoting “there are gonna be things you want to do in life but u just can’t because of the consequences”. very simple but it took me a long way and still carries me.
VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
My mom 100% she gets up everyday a works no matter what so my siblings and I can have a better life when we already have a great one. She’s a go-getter and a beautiful soul she will always inspire me.
VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.
