Q&A with Fort Scott’s Keegan Yarick – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Bourbon County Cars

Fort Scott athlete Keegan Yarick spoke with VYPE in a recent interview.

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?

My personal goals are to be SEK champs for the 3rd straight year, make it to state, reach 1000 points, and make a decision to play college basketball this year.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

I’ve had a lot of good memories playing sports over the years but one of my favorites is beating Labette my sophomore year in double overtime.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

Each year there has been someone that has made me better. My freshman year Ella Beth was a great role model. My sophomore year Abby Altic set the example of what a leader should be. My junior year the three seniors Jescie Comstock, Ellie Smith, and Kenzie Murphy made the season fun and successful. And this year I have my sister Aubrey Yarick which pushes me in practice and does whatever she can to help me get better.

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

My favorite part of being on this team is how everyone gets along, works hard, and has fun. I also like this team because of the coaches. They put a lot of time into getting us ready and making us better while making practice fun at the same time.

VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?

I participate in community service projects through the clubs I am involved in at the high school.

VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?

I am involved in Student Council, National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Math Club, and Science Club.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

Sports have taught me commitment, mental toughness, teamwork, and resilience.

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

The best advice i’ve gotten is to give your best effort all of the time so you have no regrets whether you win or lose knowing you gave it your all.

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?

My mom and dad inspire me because they will do anything for my siblings and I. They have taught us to work hard, chase our dreams, and never give up.
