Q&A with Chanute’s Jacie Costin – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Top It

Chanute volleyball player Jacie Costin told VYPE about her life in a recent interview.

VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?

My personal goals for this year is to be the best teammate I can be, my role as a teammate has changed this season due to a injury, so I am adapting to a new role as the season continues!

VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?

The most fun I have had in the last year has been with my teammates. This past summer when we would get in the gym and just work but most importantly have fun! We are a family and this summer definitely proved how much of a family we are!

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?

My favorite teacher is my Business teacher who I have known since my sophomore year of high school! She has helped me in so many ways about learning the next steps in life after high school, but most importantly she has taught me life lessons! She has made a huge impact on my life, I will always be grateful!

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

My favorite athletic memory was sophomore and junior year when my team and I would get together the night before every game and we would just talk, do homework, and overall just have fun! These are the memories I will never forget!

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

The teammate that has left the biggest impression on me is someone who graduated with the class of 2023 and that is Brinly Bancroft! She has helped me in more ways than she even knows of! She always understands, listens, and talks at all the right times. I am forever grateful for everything that she has done for me and with me! She has shown me how to be strong, honorable, respectful, and overall a great athlete on and off the court/ softball field!

VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

My favorite part of being on this team is being around to watch all the great connections between players and coaches! I love coming into the gym after school and seeing the girls because even on the bad days they always make it better! When you walk into the Chanute High School gym at 3:30 you truly see a family!

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?

If I could pick any place for a summer vacation I would go to Greece because it looks so beautiful and I know my teammates would love it there! I would obviously take my team with me because I can’t go anywhere without my girls!

VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?

If I got $500 to spend in 24 hrs and if I am completely honest, I would give it to someone or somewhere in my small town that could put it to better use than I would! My parents always taught me that you have to work for what you get, and I know that $500 would be more beneficial to someone or some organization that really needs it.

VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?

I am apart of the National Honors Society, and currently the President of FBLA.
