Parsons’ Demonta Kendrick recently won our poll for Outstanding Defensive Lineman with 30,651 votes from the community. Each poll winner is then featured in their own article where we spotlight that athletes life and accomplishments. Kendrick is no exception with his participation in Football, Power Lifting and Track he is a strong representative of the Parsons Vikings.
When speaking of the football team Kendrick said “I really like my defensive coaches – our Defensive Coach Raheem Dumas and Defensive Line Coach Ivory Kelly. Coach Ivory is new to the high school team this year but I really enjoy his coaching. He has worked with me on technique and defensive knowledge. He is willing to work with me 1 on 1 as well to ensure that I can be the best player I can be. Coach Dumas really gets after us but he does it because he knows we are capable of more and wants to get out our max potential. All of our coaches bring the energy to every practice and game. It carries over to the players.”
This year Kendrick is focusing on “really just improving my game everyday and helping make the team better. I’m more about working hard and letting my effort level speak for it’s self. I don’t like taking plays off so I get myself in shape to be able to play all the defensive snaps if I’m needed”.
Kendrick told VYPE he’s had fun “seeing the Team continue to improve every year. I have really enjoyed the success we have had on the field and some of my personal success that I’ve been able to achieve in the weight room.”
“I would say Chris Beard is the guy who has left the biggest impression on me. We grew up playing in the same peewee football league and same middle school. After his Freshmen year his family had moved to Oklahoma, but he came back and played his Senior season here in Parsons with us. Chris and I played on the defensive line together and I would say that we both did a good job of pushing each other on the field and in the weight room. Chris and I were pretty tight and I actually got to go with Chris and Coach Kato to a few college games last year while Chris was visiting on some recruitment trips” said Kendrick.
